How to download your wishlist CSV from Steamworks

  1. Steamworks › Financial Data
  2. Click the name of your game
  3. In the top menu bar click “Wishlists”
  4. Click “All History” in the time range
  5. Scroll down and click the name of your game (AGAIN! Ugh, Steamworks)
  6. Find the section “Wishlist Action Summary, all history” and click “view as csv” — a small file should download
  7. Open the file and confirm it has a long daily list with a header row that reads:
    DateLocal,Game,Adds,Deletes,PurchasesAndActivations,Gifts
Note: Steamworks is confusing — sometimes it downloads wishlist activity for all your games instead of just one. You have the wrong file if it lists all of your studio’s games with a high-level summary. You want the per-game daily breakdown, not that file.
💡 Cool Tips
Mass Select
Hold Shift while you click to create an area on the chart. This is good for calculating total wishlists earned during multi-day events like Steam Next Fest. Another cool tip: in the area select tooltip, click 'Avg Daily' to get a calculation of baseline wishlist rate. Great for comparing pre and post demo launches."
Submit Your Game to Chris
If you did something cool, came up with a cool marketing trick, or went viral, I want to hear about it. Click 'Send to chris' and provide your email and note and I will get notified. Rest assured, what you send me, stays only with me. I will never ever share your data in a blog or with anyone else without first asking you via the email address you provide.
Compare Games
If you want to compare the marketing campaigns of two games, load a wishlist CSV, then drag a second one onto the chart. You can also click the Load CSV dropdown and pick Compare CSV. The X axis will switch to the number of days the Steam page was live.
Export Tools
I built this tool because I was tired of seeing MS-paint scratch marks drawn over Steamworks graphs. This dropdown button provides several ways to show off your wishlist chart.
Export CSV
The way to save your notes long term. The edits you make in browser shouldn't be trusted. If you want to save your notes for later, across browsers, export as a CSV. You can always reimport into the wishlis tool.
Export HTML
Export HTML is another way to save your work for later. You can edit locally instead of howtomarketagame.com/wishlists.
Embed HTML
Export Embed HTML is a great way to embed on your own blog. The graph is presented as read only: Export buttons are disabled and people can make their own annotations but cannot save or export them.
Export Image
Click the Export CSV dropdown and pick Export Image to download a png. Great for sharing on Reddit or embedding in pitch decks & presentations.
Data Usage
All data you enter into this tool stays local to your brower. The only way I will see what you enter is if you click the "Send to Chris" button. I will then get a copy of the CSV with your annotations. I will never ever share this data without getting your permission first. I ask for your email address so I can ask for your consent and ask any follow up questions. Also write a short note explaining why you are sending me the chart.
Append Wishlists
The wishlist tool will automatically append CSVs of the same game. So if months ago you added notes and exported a CSV and want to add new notes with the latest wishlists you earned, drag both files - one at a time - into the wishlsit tool and it will merge them together.
